Overview

About Decorative Concrete & Overlays

Decorative concrete is where flooring becomes design. Where a polished slab or solid-color epoxy is engineered for performance, decorative systems are engineered for visual impact — metallic swirls, full-color flake fields, exposed-aggregate quartz, acid-etched mineral patinas, and resurfaced overlays that look nothing like the slab they cover.

Every decorative system is custom. Color blends, flake density, metallic pigment placement, and finish gloss all change job to job. We build sample boards on the actual slab before installation so you see the exact result before committing.

Popular Greater Atlanta-area projects include metallic epoxy basement floors that look like flowing copper or onyx, full-broadcast flake garages with custom blends, acid-stained living spaces with rich mottled tones, and self-leveling overlays that resurface badly damaged slabs into showroom-grade floors.

Our Process

How We Install Decorative Concrete & Overlays

01

Design Consultation

We discuss color palette, finish style, and reference photos. Sample boards built on-site for approval.

02

Substrate Prep

Diamond grind or shot blast — decorative systems are unforgiving of poor prep. Crack and spall repair as needed.

03

Base Layer

Pigmented epoxy, metallic basecoat, or self-leveling overlay applied as the foundation for the decorative finish.

04

Decorative Effect

Metallic pigments swirled, flake broadcast, stains applied, or aggregate seeded. This is the artistic step.

05

Topcoat

Two coats of clear urethane or polyaspartic to lock in the design and provide chemical and UV resistance.

FAQs

Decorative Concrete & Overlays Questions

How much does a metallic epoxy floor cost?
Metallic epoxy generally runs higher than solid-color or flake systems because of the artistic application and premium pigments. Pricing depends on square footage, complexity of the design, and prep work needed. Most residential metallic floors fall in a similar range to a high-end flake system.
Can decorative concrete go over my existing tile or wood?
No — decorative concrete systems require a concrete substrate. If you have tile, wood, or LVT, those would need to come up first to expose the slab. Once exposed, most slabs can be coated.
Will the design match my sample exactly?
Metallic and stained finishes are inherently variable — that's their character. We get extremely close to the sample, but slight variation in pigment movement, light reflection, and slab porosity is part of why these floors look custom rather than printed. We always set expectations with sample patches before installation.
